How this works

The circle method fixes one team in place and rotates the others around it. After N − 1 rotations every pair has met exactly once, and because the two halves of the circle are always paired off, no team is scheduled twice in a round. With an odd field a phantom team is added and whoever draws it has the bye.

Questions

What is a round-robin?
A format where every team plays every other team the same number of times, and the table decides it — no knockout, no elimination. A single round-robin is once each; a double round-robin is home and away.
How many matches is a double round-robin?
N × (N − 1) — 10 teams is 90 matches. That is twice the single round-robin's N × (N − 1) ÷ 2.
Does the order of rounds matter?
For fairness, not much: the circle method spreads each team's opponents evenly. For scheduling it can — if a pitch is only free on some dates, generate the list and then move fixtures around.

Run it as a real competition

This is the same fixture engine Dawrify uses. In the app the schedule comes with live scoring, a standings table that sorts itself, player statistics, matchday graphics and a public page for every team — and the fixtures are the ones you just generated.
